In southeastern Cameroon, the community of Salapoumbé hosted the Baka Bantu Cultural Festival (FESTIBABA) in the border region surrounding Lobéké National Park. Centered on the coexistence and shared traditions of the indigenous Baka and neighboring Bantu communities, the gathering brought together over a thousand participants from across the Sangha Trinational area. The festival serves as an essential vehicle for passing down deep-forest cultural heritage to the next generation, showcasing ancestral hunting songs, sacred polyphonic singing, intricate ritual dances, and traditional medicine practices rooted in native rainforest botany. Supported by regional conservationists and UNESCO, the event also incorporated practical workshops regarding the local forestry framework and sustainable ecotourism, highlighting how traditional Baka environmental stewardship and indigenous heritage play an essential role in safeguarding Central Africa's biodiversity.
