From July 30 to August 2, 2026, the town of Salapoumbé hosted the fifth edition of the Baka Bantu Cultural Festival (FESTIBABA). The event, themed 'Tourism, Tradition and Community Integration for Cultural Promotion around Lobéké National Park,' brought together over 1,500 participants from Cameroon, the Central African Republic, and the Republic of the Congo. Co-funded by UNESCO and the European Union, the festival serves as a vital space for intergenerational dialogue and the transmission of indigenous knowledge. This initiative builds upon ongoing efforts to revive traditional weaving and other ancestral crafts that were previously at risk of extinction, thereby strengthening the cultural identity and economic autonomy of the Baka and Bantu peoples.
