The 2026 FESTIBABA festival in Salapoumbé promoted cultural exchange and the preservation of ancestral knowledge among Baka and Bantu communities.

The fifth edition of the Baka Bantu Cultural Festival (FESTIBABA) took place from July 30 to August 2, 2026, in Salapoumbé, Cameroon. Held under the theme 'Tourism, Tradition and Community Integration for Cultural Promotion around Lobéké National Park,' the event brought together over 1,500 participants from Cameroon, the Central African Republic, and the Republic of the Congo. Co-funded by UNESCO and the European Union, the festival provided a crucial platform for intergenerational dialogue and the transmission of ancestral knowledge. This event follows ongoing efforts supported by UNESCO to revive traditional weaving practices among Baka and Bantu women, ensuring that these endangered artisanal skills are preserved while fostering local economic autonomy and biodiversity conservation.
