From July 30 to August 2, 2026, the town of Salapoumbé, Cameroon, hosted the fifth edition of the Baka Bantu Cultural Festival (FESTIBABA). Held under the theme 'Tourism, Tradition and Community Integration for Cultural Promotion around Lobéké National Park,' the event brought together over 1,500 participants from communities bordering the Sangha Trinational region, including areas in the Central African Republic and the Republic of the Congo. Co-funded by UNESCO and the European Union-funded Natura Sud Est programme, the festival provided a dedicated space for intergenerational dialogue and the transmission of traditional knowledge. Workshops focused on sustainable tourism and cultural awareness, aiming to strengthen the bonds between Baka and Bantu communities while promoting the preservation of their shared heritage in the face of modern environmental and social challenges.
